AO Exam Preparations

Season 2026
ALPINE OFFICIALS' INFORMATION CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

With the exception of Technical Delegates and Race Administrators, yearly attendance at a Continuing Education Clinic (Update) is required in order to maintain certification and officiate at events. Unless excused, Technical Delegates and Race Administrators must attend a certification-specific Workshop every season prior to officiating at events and in order to maintain certification.

Select a link below for specific recommendations on how best to prepare for select Alpine Official (AO) clinics and exams.  History has shown that those who prepare in advance for the exams come to the clinics with specific questions on topics they didn't understand or would like to learn more about.  In addition, they tend to spend less time completing their exams!

US Ski & Snowboard publishes Study Guides for all of the AO specialty areas.  Each Study Guide covers a number of topics specific to the specialty area.  This makes them a good reference for those preparing to take an AO exam as well as a great refresher for experienced officials.  Study guides are currently available for the following specialty areas:

  • Chief of Course (CC)
  • Chief of Race (CR)
  • Competition Official (CO)
  • Race Administration (RA)
  • Referee (RF)
  • Technical Delegate (TD)
  • Timing & Calculations - Basic (TC1)
  • Timing & Calculations - Advanced (TC3)

Study Guides can be downloaded from this US Ski & Snowboard webpage: https://usskiandsnowboard.org/sport-development/officials-development/alpine-officials/alpine-competition-officials-education
